Support the Owls at the Richmond Virtual Academy

In March 2020, COVID-19 led to nationwide school closures, sparking innovative approaches to education. Recognizing the need for continued flexibility, Richmond Public Schools launched the Richmond Virtual Academy (RVA) in May 2021. This initiative supports families preferring a virtual learning environment. Despite reopening our physical schools, RPS continues to offer a robust virtual learning option, acknowledging its importance for ensuring the safety and educational continuity of certain students. RVA now serves as the educational home for over 300 scholars, including those participating by choice in the virtual program and those necessitating remote learning due to medical, individualized education program (IEP), or safety considerations.
At RVA, our primary focus is learning within our NEST (Nurturing Educational Support Team). This team, comprised of dedicated teachers and support staff, is committed to fostering deep engagement in remote learning for our K-12 students. Our mission is to create a safe, vibrant, and innovative online learning space prioritizing student success. We emphasize a curriculum that is both rigorous and stimulating, preparing students for a technologically advanced and global society. RVA envisions an online learning community that promotes the social, emotional, and academic growth of every student, from Kindergarten through 12th grade. By achieving our mission and vision, the NEST ensures an exceptional online learning experience for our students, staff, and families.
